The artist Erzsi Kovács - the best friend - told her life story back in the spring of 2002, when Hofi left us. The contemporary press articles, which are often unfair and sometimes hurtful, fit into this story, but Hofi did not give up his principles. He always stood up for the fate of the hard-working, because he never forgot where he came from. He went against the power. He had an unparalleled talent for political cabaret.
The ceremony slowly ended, and as if the clouds wanted to cry, they gathered in the sky, and it was as if a familiar, cheerful face looked out from there... he even waved and shouted into the space: Pussantás to everyone...
Hofi would be 85 years old this year - this was the reason for the new publication of the book. He is still here with us, and we would most like to celebrate with him, but his heart could not take it and he left us on a quiet day in April. He closed the door of his dressing room forever, but he still lives in our hearts, and I think not only the 60s remember him, because the members of today's generation, the young people, also know him. He left behind a huge oeuvre.
2022 will be the 20th anniversary of his death.

A nap erősen sütött a levegő azonban hűvös volt. A kiöregedett vadászkutya dala szólt, az szorongatta a szíveket, mikor a fekete földbe vájt üregbe csendesen leengedték a koporsót. A szemek megteltek könnyel, s folyt a könnypatak az egész országban. Érte. Hoffmann Gézáért, mindenki HOFI-jáért, aki egyszerű munkásból lett az ország legnagyobb komikusa.
Társadalompolitikai érzéke, páratlan igazságérzetével karöltve tette őt naggyá a kisember, és a politikai hatalom szemében is. Mert játszott, a nagyok előtt is.
Az igazságból elveszett az "i" - hangzott a lágy szélben, amely vitte-vitte a dalt, és magával ragadott mindenkit. Ő énekelte.. s szinte alig hitte el valaki, hogy nem áll ott titkon egy fa mögött, és dalol végtelenül vidám, cinikus, ironikus módon. Már-már azt mondta volna az ember, elég volt, gyere elő!,- de a dal meg csak lengett tovább a széllel, s többé nem láthattuk..

Kovács Erzsi művésznő -, a legjobb barát-, mondta el életregényét, még akkor 2002 tavaszán, amikor Hofi eltávozott közülünk. Ebbe a történetbe illeszkednek bele a korabeli sajtócikkek, amelyek sokszor igazságtalanok, olykor bántók, de Hofi nem adta fel az elveit. A melós sorsáért mindig kiállt, mert sosem felejtette el, honnan jött. Szembe ment a hatalommal. Páratlan tehetsége volt a politikai kabarénak.
Lassan vége lett a szertartásnak, s mintha sírni akarnának a felhők is, úgy gyűltek össze az égen, s mintha onnan kinézett volna egy ismerős, egy vidám arc... sőt még integetett is, belekiáltotta az űrbe: Pusszantás mindenkinek...
Hofi ebben az esztendőben lenne 85 éves-, ez adta az apropót a könyv újbóli megjelenéséhez. Még itt él bennünk, és a legszívesebben együtt ünnepelnénk vele, de nem bírta a szíve, és egy csendes áprilisi napon elment közülünk. Bezárta örökre az öltözője ajtaját, de a szívünkben még él, és azt hiszem, nem csak a hatvanasok emlékeznek rá, mert ismerik a mai generáció tagjai, a fiatalok is. Hatalmas életművet hagyott maga mögött.
2022. halálának 20. évfordulója lesz.
