Quite electrifying with superb playing... one can say that this is arguably the best Tod und Verklärung yet committed to disc. Metamorphosen has almost unbearable intensity and great emotional urgency — it is very gripping and involving account. In both works, it would be difficult to improve on these performances by the greatest Richard Strauss conductor of his day.
