Overview
Part of the Tutto Verdi series celebrating Giuseppe Verdi’s bicentennial, this production of Il Trovatore—one of Verdi’s most intense and popular operas—was filmed live at the Teatro Regio di Parma. Il Trovatore is known for its complex plot filled with themes of love, revenge, and dark secrets, set against the backdrop of war. Verdi’s passionate music brings to life the gothic drama based on the Spanish play El trovador by Antonio García Gutiérrez.
With a cast led by baritone Claudio Sgura as the tormented Conte di Luna and tenor Marcelo Álvarez as the heroic Manrico, this production is a powerhouse of vocal and dramatic intensity. Teresa Romano as the tragic Leonora and Mzia Nioradze as the vengeful Azucena add depth to Verdi's complex characters. Directed by Lorenzo Mariani, the staging stays true to the opera’s dark, gothic atmosphere, while Yuri Temirkanov conducts the renowned Teatro Regio di Parma Orchestra with Verdi's unmistakable fervor.
