Overview
To celebrate Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's 300th birth anniversary, this production of Adriano in Siria was staged in the historical Teatro G.B. Pergolesi in Jesi. Directed by Ignacio García and conducted by Ottavio Dantone, the opera stays true to its original form, including the comic intermezzo Livietta e Tracollo. The performance features a distinguished Italian cast supported by the renowned Accademia Bizantina, delivering a historically informed performance.
The story of Adriano in Siria revolves around the Roman emperor Adrian and his complex political and romantic entanglements in the Eastern provinces of his empire. As in the original 1734 premiere, this production includes the light-hearted intermezzo Livietta e Tracollo to offer comic relief between the heavier acts.

For the festivities marking the Pergolesi's tercentenary in his native Jesi, Ignacio García created a new staging of the imperial drama Adriano in Siria. His staging in Jesi's exquisite 18th-century Teatro Comunale Pergolesi includes the delightful comic intermezzo Livietta e Tracollo, thus following the precedent set at the premiere in 1734. A fine Italian cast and the distinguished Accademia Bizantina are led by the Accademia's director, Ottavio Dantone.
