Overview

Giacomo Puccini’s "Turandot", his final and most grandiose opera, is set in ancient China and tells the story of the cold-hearted Princess Turandot and the mysterious Prince Calaf, who falls in love with her. This 2013 revival of Andrei Serban's 1984 production at the Royal Opera House is a stunning visual spectacle, full of vibrant color and imposing stage design, reflecting the aestheticized cruelty and beauty that pervades Puccini’s work.

In this production, Lise Lindstrom makes her Royal Opera House debut as Turandot, described as “magnetic” by The Independent, with a voice full of brilliance and power. Marco Berti, as Calaf, embodies both the physical and vocal strength required for his character, delivering a commanding performance. Henrik Nánási, making his debut as well, conducts the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, bringing out the nuances of Puccini’s rich, emotionally complex score.

Filmed in High Definition and presented with true Surround Sound, this performance captures the intensity and drama of Puccini’s timeless themes of love, death, and power.
