This CD features a recording of Franz Schubert's Mass in A-flat major, D 678, and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Psalm 42 "Wie der Hirsch schreit." This work, a chonal mutss par excellence, owed its origins to no outward stimule; in almost every respect its design abandons the conventional formal world of Schuberts four early mase.

Commencée en novembre 1819, la Mms solemnis en La bémol majeur D.678 est considérée comme le jalon le plus important sur le chemin qui mène de la tradition à la restauration, de l'exécution d'une commande liturgique à l'affirmation d'un art émancipé. Cette messe chorale par excellence ne doit rien aux circonstances extérieures, et presque tous les aspects de cet édifice e sont bien doignés de l la forme conventionnelle des quatre premières messes de Schubert.
