This set contains Fats Navarro's last studio session ever, included here in its entirety for the first time ever. He is showcased in a quintet format with Don Lanphere, Al Haig, Tommy Potter and Max Roach. Navarro would die shortly after on July 7, 1950, at the age of 26. As a bonus, we have added an unissued broadcast from the Café Society recorded just a few days before Fats' disappearance and two rare jam sessions from a 1947 broadcast featuring the trumpeter.

Theodore "Fats" Navarro (September 24, 1923 – July 6, 1950) was an American jazz trumpet player. He was a pioneer of the bebop style of jazz improvisation in the 1940s. He had a strong stylistic influence on many other players, including Clifford Brown.
