About the Author

Márton Szepsi Csombor (1595–1622) was a Reformed theologian, educator, and writer born in Szepsi (modern-day Moldava nad Bodvou, Slovakia). He attended schools in Kassa, Késmárk, and Nagybánya, and began his travels in 1616, journeying across Denmark, Holland, England, France, Germany, and the Czech lands. His travelogue Europica Varietas offers a unique perspective on 17th-century Europe. Tragically, Szepsi Csombor passed away at the age of 27 due to a plague outbreak, leaving behind this singular work as his legacy.
