Establishing Your Purpose - Ministry in the Marketplace / Copyright 1986 by The Navigators Colorado Springs, Colorado / Reprinted by Permission Vision Foundation, Inc / Printed in the United States of America

There are different ways to answer the question , “What is a “Marketplace Ministry?” You’re either in the marketplace with your career or in a ministry talking about God, right?

No, the lines are not that defined.

If you are serious about your faith, you can’t lay it down because you have a career. You and your faith are a package deal. When you show up, the business side of you is present and the part that’s committed to God is also in the room.

In Marketplace Ministry, instead of hiding your faith, you live your faith for the world to see. Your business and ministry coexist so people can see what an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ looks like. That is Marketplace Ministry!

The love of God is not your secret just for church on Sunday. God’s love is designed for everyone to see and experience – people who go to church AND those who don’t.

The idea that God doesn’t care about your business is wrong. He cares about people. People go to work, so He cares about your work. That’s not all He cares about –

  • He cares about how you handle money (Psalm 37:21).
  • He cares about how you lead (James 3:1, Proverbs 27:23-24).
  • He cares about how you treat people (Matthew 7:12, Phil 2:3).
  • He cares about how you grow (1 Timothy 4:8).
  • He cares about how you spend your weekends (Proverbs 4:23).
  • He cares about multiplying what you have (Matthew 25:14-30).
  • He cares about YOU (Psalm 32:8, 1 Peter 5:6-7).

No longer should you drop your faith and values at the door of your office. The business environment has a culture and so do you and both are important. In Marketplace Ministry, people matter as individuals, not just employees or profit-makers.

A New Era in Marketplace Ministry  has emerged out of a need for employees to have a voice in the workplace. It’s not smart for employers to minimize the personal values of employees. When employers show they care, job satisfaction goes up. When job satisfaction goes up, work output increases and so does profit. The business world can’t ignore the importance of Marketplace Ministry and smart business practices  as a solution to move forward.

As we consider our shifting culture, Marketplace Ministry leads the way in establishing a new business era that cares about people.

At Ministry in Business (MIB) our goal is to partner with you in ministry and business. We encourage you to become an example of a lifestyle of faith at work and at home. We wear our faith everywhere we go,  in boardrooms, at counters and behind closed doors. We don’t hide our faith. We live it every day and invite others to join us.

That’s Marketplace Ministry!

You don’t have to start a non-profit or wait to start your ministry to do what God has placed on your heart. Instead, reframe your perspective and say “Yes” to Marketplace Ministry.  Allow the call of God on your life to start today.
