Emmerich Kalmans Grafin Mariza (Countess Mariza) premiered in Vienna in 1924, some years after the close of WWI and the end of the ruling Austrian Hapsburg Empire. Curiously, or possibly not, this period was also a Golden Age of Operetta; Countess Mariza being one of a number of fine examples of from this period of the successful refashioning of pre-war styles to accommodate changing audience tastes. This 2003 Mariza performance recorded during the Seefestspiele Moerbisch Austria Festival stars Dagmar Schellenberger, Nikolai Schukoff and Harald Serafin, conducted by Rudolf Bibl.
