Even back as far as King Solomon, it was written by this wisest of wise men in Ecclesiastes 12:12, "Of making many books there is no end." Who knows how many, thousands upon thousands, yea, millions upon millions of books, have sprung up as the grass, as the flowers of the fields, and flourished. And now the wind has passed over them and they are gone and the place thereof shall know them no more. But though this lovely little volume may have faded and passed with time, it has been my distinct pleasure to have a part in reviving it so that it may once again bless and refresh the soul that reads it.
Revising and updating this book by J. R. Miller has not been a task but a pleasure.
The Lord Jesus said, "Whosoever would save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's shall save it." St. Paul also said, "Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus." In this lovely book, Dr. J. R. Miller expounds the same thought: we do not gain peace or joy by seeking it in self-satisfaction, but rather by expending our lives in service to others. The result of such self-sacrifice is an abundant and overflowing life. It is my prayer that God will use this book to help develop the Christlike life in each reader.
