In 1956, Elisabeth Söderström and Kerstin Meyer participated in a Lieder interpretation course led by Erich Werba, where they were tasked with performing Rossini's Duetto Buffo di Due Gatti ("Duet of Two Cats"). This humorous and lively piece sparked the idea for a full concert program themed around cats, which they first performed in 1957. Inspired by the audience's enthusiastic response, the duo embarked on a journey of creating numerous duet recitals, both in Sweden and internationally, building a diverse and extensive duet repertoire.
