English Summary:
Coverage of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest held at the Expo Tel Aviv arena in Israel. As well as footage of all the songs performed at the event, the programme includes behind-the-scenes access to the semi-finals and the final, which was won by Duncan Laurence of Netherlands with his song 'Arcade'.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2019 was the 64th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Tel Aviv, Israel, following the country's victory at the 2018 contest with the song "Toy" by Netta. It was the third time Israel had hosted the contest, having previously done so in 1979 and 1999 – both times in Jerusalem. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC), the contest was held at Expo Tel Aviv, and consisted of two semi-finals on 14 and 16 May, and the final on 18 May 2019. The three live shows were presented by Erez Tal, Bar Refaeli, Assi Azar and Lucy Ayoub.
Forty-one countries took part in the contest. Though Bulgaria and Ukraine had participated the previous year, they were absent for 2019. Members of Bulgaria's delegation had been moved to other projects, while Ukraine, which had originally planned to participate, ultimately withdrew as a result of a controversy surrounding their national final. No countries debuted at the contest nor did any return from an absence.
The winner was the Netherlands with the song "Arcade", performed by Duncan Laurence and written by Laurence along with Joel Sjöö, Wouter Hardy and Will Knox. This was the Netherlands' fifth victory in the contest, following their wins in 1957, 1959, 1969 and 1975. This was the second time since the introduction of professional jury voting in 2009 that the overall winner won neither the jury vote, which was won by North Macedonia, nor the televote, which was won by Norway, with the Netherlands placing third in the jury vote and second in the televote. Italy, Russia, Switzerland and Sweden rounded out the top five, although, due to an error in the voting at the contest, Norway were placed fifth and Sweden sixth – this was corrected three days after the contest. The contest also saw the largest televote/jury vote split for an entry to date, with Norway, the televote winner, receiving 291 points from the televote, but only 40 points from the juries, a difference of 251 points. Further down the table, North Macedonia and San Marino achieved their best results to date, finishing 7th and 19th respectively. Israel finished 23rd in the final, making it the fourth time that the host country ranked in the bottom five since 2015.
