Overview

"Dance Quartet" features three remarkable ballets choreographed by the acclaimed Heinz Spoerli, set to the music of master composers Leoš Janáček, Antonín Dvořák, and Franz Schubert. Performed by the Zürcher Ballett with live music from the world-renowned Hagen Quartett, this production was recorded live at the Salzburg Festival in the stunning Felsenreitschule.

The three ballets presented are:

  1. Lettres intimes – Set to Janáček's String Quartet No. 2 ("Intimate Letters"), this ballet explores deep emotional connections, brought to life by soloists Seh Yun Kim and Arsen Mehrabyan.

  2. In Spillville – A vibrant and heartfelt ballet set to Dvořák's String Quartet in F major, Op. 96 ("American"), featuring Sarah-Jane Brodbeck and Tigran Mikayelyan.

  3. Der Tod und das Mädchen – A poignant interpretation of Schubert's String Quartet in D minor, D 810 ("Death and the Maiden"), performed by Yen Han and Arsen Mehrabyan.

Directed with a keen eye for the interplay between dance and music, Spoerli’s choreography masterfully conveys the essence of each composition, making this DVD a visual and auditory treat for ballet and classical music enthusiasts alike.
