Hemző Károly (Budapest, 1928. június 11. – Budapest, 2012. november 6.) magyar fotóművész.

Fotólaboránsként dolgozott 1942-től a Hunnia Filmstúdióban, majd nyomdai fényképész és retusőr volt az Athenaeum Nyomdában, 1949 és 1952 között. 1952-től fotóriporterként dolgozott, eleinte a Honvéd Sport Egyesületnél később a Képes Sportnál. A Magyar Fotóművészek Szövetségének tagja 1958-tól. 1967 és 1989 között a Magyar Szemle képszerkesztőjeként dolgozott. Tevékenysége rendkívül sokoldalú, készít illusztrációkat, könyveket, művészi kiadványokat a riportok mellett. Kortárs fotósok munkáiból nyitotta meg a Lépcsőházi Galériát, 1996-ban.

Karoly Hemző was born in Budapest on June 11 1928. He wanted to train as an agronomist, but the war intervened and- by a stroke of luck - he became a photographer. 1952-1967 he was a sports photographer, 1967-1989, a photo reporter and picture editor.
From 1990 he began to take up functional photography. He and his wife, Mari Lajos, produced a series of 26 cookery books, many of which have been translated into several languages.

English Summary:

There is a small island in the Danube, near Rackeve. Its name is Angel Island maybe not by chance. The feeling and the sight that met you on arrival there back in about the middle of the last century was unforgettable. Along the river bank were reeds, home to a rich variety of birds; the river was teeming with fish: crusian carp, mirror carp, catfish, bream, sunfish an angler's paradise. Tiny weekend cottages set on bigger or smaller plots: fruit trees, vegetables and flowers, flowers galore in the gardens. And of course mosquitoes. On the northern third of the island a small family ran a farm. They produced everything man and animal could want. Apart from several cows, pigs and a troop of poultry they had two horses as welt Into this world chanced a skinny, urban child who was lucky enough to get closer to nature and village life here. These were unforgettable holidays, giving plenty of opportunity to form a lasting friendship with horses. This feeling inspired my photo album Hoofbeats published in 1978. And as proof that this is a lifelong friendship, here is my latest book.
