Anna Larson performs with the Arnold Schoenberg Chor (female voices) and Toelzer Knabenchor and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado in 2007.

The Third Symphony of Mahler arrives on Blu-ray with a generally excellent 1080i AVC encoded image which only occasionally betrays it interlaced roots. Of course this is not a summer blockbuster CGI fest, so anyone coming to this Blu-ray expecting knock your socks off visuals is obviously going to be disappointed. That said, this is a remarkably crisp and clean image, with excellently thought out television direction which obviously hews closely to the score, providing a number of very impressive close-ups of various orchestra members taking their soli. The hall itself is magnificent, and looks spectacular here, with no artifacting in the many parallel lines that make up the patterns of the balconies and surrounding walls. In fact the only, extremely minor, aliasing I encountered was very brief snippets of some of the string bows. Otherwise this is an excellent image quality, with lifelike colors and some superb detail, especially in the up close and personal shots, which are here in abundance.
