Regarded as one of (if not the) greatest work of its kind, this "profound study of Antichrist and the apostasy of the last days" is the finest "that ever came from the pen of an American Biblical scholar
... Every tendency of modern thought toward the close of the 19th century unfolded in these pages is to be seen manifested in [the decades of this century] with ever greater power and more universal
influence then Andrews was able to discern... One might say that he was a true prophet of God fulfilling in his study that gift of the Spirit referred to by the Apostle Paul in the phrase 'discerning of spirits'."
So wrote the late Dr. Wilbur M. Smith, the acknowledged "Dean" of American religious bibliophiles. Wilbur Smith did not stand alone in his praise of Dr. Andrews' work. The late James M. Gray, for many years one of the great men asso ciated with the Moody Bible Institute, said, "After the Bible. The next book I would recommend as indispensable for the library of the pastor, missionary or Christian worker of today is Christianity and AntiChristianity in Their Final Conflict. Pastors, missionaries, Sunday School teachers and social workers, bear with me if I say, you must read this book. (Itallics are part of the original.)
With such comments from revered men of the past there is little that anyone can do except concur with their well-founded opinion. Dr. Samuel J. Andrews (1817-1906) endeared himself to the
Christian world when, in 1862, he issued The Bible Students Life of Our Lord. So well was this work received that, in 1891, he revised and enlarged it, and published it under the imposing title of The Life
of Our Lord Upon the Earth, Considered in Its Historical, Chronolo gical, and Geographical Relations. This work still earns the respect of all who read it, for it is permeated with a reverence and piety devel-
oped from long exposure to the Word.
In 1890 Dr. Andrews issued his most profound study of Antichrist and the apostacy of the last days. The second edition, published in 1898, was considerably enlarged. It is this edition that is now before the reader. Each page is filled with the author's insights into the Holy Scripture on such topics as the events of the last days, and few (if any) believers will not be challenged by his treatment of Scripture
on the personality and power and overthrow of the "Man of Sin"; or his discussion of the "falling away" of the professing church; or the tendency within modern society to unwittingly prepare for the appear-
ance of the Antichrist; or the reign of "the Beast" as described in the Book of Revelation.
There is a breadth of wisdom in these pages that readers will find satisfying. There is also a depth of understanding which they will come to appreciate. And above all, there is the correlation of the teaching
of Scripture so that, when the book is finished, the reader has a comprehensive grasp of the teaching of God's Word on the subject of the last days.
