Review:
The price of this set makes it an unbelievable value. The recording quality is excellent and clear, way superior to what I expected from such an inexpensive set. The set contains the music from several older albums, Atkins recordings that I haven't seen elsewhere. The best tracks are those that are not overly produced (!). A real surprise are tracks from the 60s that are great light jazz in the vein of Street Dreams and Sails CDs. In a way, though, what gives the set it's value also costs it one star in my view. The albums included are so different that the sequence of the tracks is uneven and a bit distracting. The first disk really isn't primarily Chet Atkins ... it's a Nashville Ray Coniff chorus clone, with Chet as the background. Great background ! The chorus is pretty good for what it is, but not what I was expecting. In addition, some of the tracks in the set are just odd, like Begin the Beguine, with a really weird instrument included. Still, a great value for great recordings from Mr. Guitar.
