Review:
Chet Atkins was one of the most prolific artists to pick up a guitar. This 8 classic album compilation is a great place to start exploring what an incredible guitarist he truly was.
I was about eleven years old when I first heard Chet play. I don't think most eleven year old boys would have felt the affect that I felt. I was just amazed at how he approached playing...now I'm 75 and still amazed. Over the past 65 years I've managed to collect every vinyl record he released. I have to admit, I'm still looking for something I might have missed along the way. My only regret is that I never got to meet him or see him play in person.
Do I have a favorite alblum?...you bet I do. Chet Atkins In Hollywood! I get very emotional listening to that album. A close second would have to be Chet's collaboration with another guitar hero, Les Paul. Two totally different playing styles, but together playing & trading licks, it's pure magic and so much fun to listen to these two masters at the top of their game.
This 8 album CD collection pretty much covers a lot of Chet's early work, but just scratches the surface of his recording career. I can also recomment the "Essential Chet Atkins". I've actually lost count at how many Lp's Chet released during his career....just guessing I would say over 100+...I have them all, just stopped counting and listened. There is no one like him. He's been the inspiration for so many great contemporary players including me.
So start your journey with this fine collection.
