Overview

Cannonball Run II is a 1984 American–Hong Kong comedy film directed by Hal Needham and featuring an all-star cast, including Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Jamie Farr. Released by Warner Bros. and Golden Harvest, the film continues the hilarious adventures of illegal cross-country racing established in the original Cannonball Run.

In this sequel, Sheik Abdul ben Falafel (Jamie Farr), having lost the first race, is ordered by his father (Ricardo Montalban) to return to America and win the next Cannonball Run to "emblazon the Falafel name as the fastest in the world." When the Sheik mentions that there is no Cannonball Run scheduled for that year, his father simply instructs him to "buy one."

To aid in his quest, the Sheik hires Doctor Nikolas Van Helsing (Jack Elam), who previously teamed up with JJ (Burt Reynolds) and Victor (Dom DeLuise) as his in-car physician. Many familiar faces from the first film return, including JJ and Victor, who are now working with a flying stunt crew.

In a subplot, characters Blake (Dean Martin) and Fenderbaum (Sammy Davis Jr.) find themselves in financial trouble with mobster Don Don Canneloni (Charles Nelson Reilly), who is in turn pressured by enforcer Hymie Kaplan (Telly Savalas). Sheik Abdul helps bail them out, but this leads to a plot by Don Don to kidnap the Sheik for ransom.

As the race kicks off, JJ and Victor disguise themselves as a US Army general and his driver, attracting the attention of Betty (Marilu Henner) and Veronica (Shirley MacLaine), who are dressed as nuns for a musical. They hitch a ride with JJ and Victor, believing the duo could make them millionaires overnight, and hilarity ensues as they navigate the chaos of the race.
