Distances is a captivating journey through a linear musical form, where harmonies borrowed from the fourth movement of Bartók's String Quartet No. 5 form the core. In this work, newly configured chords are extracted from their original context and placed into an altered musical fabric, creating a subtly blurred sound that generates striking contrasts within the string quartet. Traditional tonal harmonies counterbalance a variety of alternating distance scales and different heptatonic scales (e.g., heptatonia secunda). Instead of following a melodic arc, these scales serve as the backbone to the ever-evolving texture of the piece.

Distances című művem egy lineáris zenei formán végigvezető utazás, melynek formai középpontjában Bartók V. vonósnégyesének negyedik tételéből kölcsönzött harmóniai idézetek állnak. A kontextusukból kiragadott akkordok új felrakásban, megváltoztatott zenei szövetben, a fülünk számára kissé elmosódva szólalnak meg, és kontrasztfunkciót töltenek be az apparátuson belül. A hagyományos tonalitású harmóniák ellenpontozzák az alternáló distanciaskálákra, illetve különböző hétfokúságú skálákra (például heptatonia secunda) épülő hangzásokat. Ezek a skálák nem a melodikus ívet formálják, sokkal inkább a darab folyamatosan változó zenei szövetének gerincét alkotják.

A mű a 2020. évi Bartók Világversenyen díjat nyert, és a 2021. évi Bartók Világverseny kötelező előadandó kompozíciójává választották.
