263P 2014 Reprint, First Print in 1976

In 1972 the Muyuw New Testament translation was virtually complete, but first print was only in 1976.

TESTIMONY ABOUT THE FIRST PRINT:

The 600 Muyuw New Testaments, first printed and sold in 1977, are worn from heavy use, tattered and discoloured, some have lost their cover. People were eager to buy new ones for themselves and their children. Those who had no money traded canoe paddles, shells, ebony carvings, turtle-shell ear-rings, or baskets of food.

In 1985 the Muyuw New Testament was revised and 600 more was printed.  In 1988 400 more printed NTs followed.

The latest reprint now in 2014 is 1,000 copies is what we are showing and selling here on Bible In My Language.

Dr David Lithgow and his wife Daphne were Bible translators and medical missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators for over 30 years, mainly in the Milne Bay Islands of Papua New Guinea. They are the translators of this New Testament and many others.

About the Language

The Muyuw language is spoken on Woodlark Island, in the southwest of Papua New Guinea. It part of the Austronesian family of languages, which makes is a distant relative of Malay and Indonesian. Today, it's written in the Latin alphabet, like English, though it's completely unrelated to English and Latin. Of its 6,000 speakers, 3,000 are monolinguals. This makes it very important to have a Bible available in these people's own language!

Papua New Guinea is linguistically the most complex nation of the world. Over 800 languages are spoken in this Pacific country as summarized in Ethnologue.
