Overview

Held each year on 1 May, the Berliner Philharmoniker's European Concert has been a byword for excellence since 1991. In a captivating performance at Prague's Estates Theatre, one of Europe's most beautiful historical venues, the orchestra under the celebrated pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim presents some of Mozart's most beloved masterpieces. The orchestra was seated in a reconstruction of the sets used at the world première of Don Giovanni, adding to the historical ambiance of the performance.

Interesting Facts

  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: The concert features Symphony No. 35 in D major, K. 385 "Haffner," Piano Concerto No. 22 in E flat major, K. 482, Horn Concerto No. 1 in D major, K. 412/514 (K. 386b), and Symphony No. 36 in C major, K. 425 "Linz."
  • Daniel Barenboim: Renowned as both a pianist and conductor, Barenboim leads the Berliner Philharmoniker with masterful precision and artistry.
  • Radek Baborák: The accomplished horn player adds a rich, resonant quality to the performance.
  • Historical Venue: The Estates Theatre in Prague is where Mozart himself premiered Don Giovanni, making it a fitting location for this celebration of his work.
  • Bonus Film: The DVD includes a cultural portrait of Prague, offering insights into the city's rich artistic heritage.
  • Cover Art: The cover photo features "BEAT, 40 Taktarten, Himmelsrichtungen, Strom, Loop-Sequenzen" (140 x 240 cm), a detailed masterpiece created by Jorinde Voigt, an emerging artist from Berlin. Voigt's work, described as evoking the emotive through the mechanical, resonates with the musical themes of the concert.
