Overview
This DVD captures the grand 10th anniversary concert of the Grafenegg Festival in 2016, celebrating the spirit of freedom, brotherhood, and humanity that Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 so eloquently embodies. Led by conductor Yutaka Sado, the Tonkunstler Orchestra and European Union Youth Orchestra Alumni come together to present a powerful rendition of Beethoven’s masterpieces, featuring the renowned Wiener Singverein chorus and an exceptional quartet of soloists: Camilla Nylund, Elena Zhidkova, Klaus Florian Vogt, and René Pape.
In addition to Beethoven’s iconic Symphony No. 9 and the Coriolan Overture, the program includes two world premieres by composer Christian Jost, commissioned specifically for the festival: Fanfare for 9 Brass Players and An die Hoffnung, based on Beethoven's song of the same name.
