This historic concert of December 14, 1989, was given in support of the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, which started in November 1989. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony was the featured work, chosen as a symbol of freedom and joy. The concert was attended by many prominent personalities, including Václav Havel (above, center, with Gabriela Beňačková and Václav Neumann), before he became his country's President.
