English
Bartók Béla: Quartets for Flutes is a unique collection of selected transcriptions drawn from some of Bartók’s most celebrated sets composed for children and young people. This volume, prepared by Zempléni László and published by Editio Musica Budapest Zeneműkiadó in 2016, features 16 pieces adapted from well-known series such as For Children, Children's and Female Choruses, 44 Duos, and Mikrokosmos.
Many of these pieces are based on folk melodies, while others use original thematic material. Notably, in nine of the 16 pieces the lower part is assigned to the alto flute. This thoughtfully curated collection not only introduces music students to one of the greatest geniuses of 20th-century music but also familiarizes them with essential techniques of chamber music performance.
