Bartók Béla írásai 4 / Írások a népzenéről és a népzenekutatásról II is a seminal volume that brings together a vast array of Bartók’s shorter writings on folk music and folk-music research. Edited by Lampert Vera and revised and edited by Révész Dorrit and Biró Viola, this fourth volume comprises 50 writings and 23 textual variants. The collection is methodically organized into four chapters:

In addition, the collection includes drafts, early or alternative versions, and original texts of writings that were previously available only in translation. Drawing on the complete set of surviving Bartók manuscripts from both Budapest and the United States, this volume makes available, in Hungarian, all of Bartók’s shorter writings on folk music and ethnomusicology known to date. Nearly half of the material (24 writings) appears here for the first time in Hungarian, based partly on previously unpublished manuscript sources. Moreover, three works originally published in foreign languages—known until now only in translation—are presented in Bartók’s own wording. The reconstruction of multiple significantly revised variants (derived from the manuscript drafts) also sheds light on Bartók’s creative and analytical methods. The volume is further enriched by illustrative musical examples (from facsimiles of manuscript pages) and is supported by comprehensive navigational aids including an index of names, a guide to folk song texts, and a subject index.

A kötetet Közreadta: Lampert Vera, Lektorálta és szerkesztette: Révész Dorrit, Biró Viola. A 4. kötet 50 írást és 23 szövegváltozatot tartalmaz, és négy részre tagolódik:

1. Az egyes nemzetek népzenéjével foglalkozó írások
2. Lexikoncikkek
3. Összehasonlító népzenetudományi tanulmányok
4. A népdalkutatás elvi és gyakorlati problémáit tárgyaló írások időrendi sorrendben

A függelék négy, kéziratban fennmaradt szövegrészletet, valamint Bartók szerb és bolgár népdalgyűjteményét tartalmazza, melyek a 3. kötetből kimaradtak. Emellett itt találhatók vázlatok, korai vagy eltérő verziók, illetve az idegen nyelven publikált írások eredeti formái is. A kötettel – amely a budapesti és amerikai fennmaradt Bartók-kéziratok teljes anyagán alapul – hozzáférhetővé válik Bartók valamennyi, népzenével és népzenekutatással kapcsolatos rövidebb írása magyar nyelven. A kiadvány anyagának majdnem fele (24 írás) részben először jelenik meg itt magyarul, míg három, eddig idegen nyelven publikált, de fordításban ismert írás szövege immár a szerző eredeti megfogalmazásában olvasható. Továbbá a kézirati vázlatok alapján rekonstruált változatok is megvilágítják Bartók munkamódszerét.
