Overview
English:
Bartók Béla: 44 Duets for Two Violas is a masterfully transcribed edition that reinterprets Bartók’s renowned 44 Violin Duets for two violas. Originally composed in 1931—at the behest of the German violin pedagogue Erich Doflein—almost all of these works are grounded in authentic folk music themes that Bartók meticulously collected during his numerous expeditions through the Carpathian Basin as well as in Algeria. Although conceived for pedagogical purposes, these duets have grown into highly effective performance pieces. The viola transcriptions faithfully preserve the spirit and structure of Bartók’s original works, offering both students and concert performers an invaluable resource that bridges academic study and expressive interpretation.
Hungarian:
A Bartók Béla: 44 Duó a két hárfa helyett két brácsára (az eredeti 44 hegedűduó átiratából) egy mesterien szerkesztett kiadás, amely Bartók híres 44 hegedűduóját kétszörös brácsára adaptálja. Bartók 1931-ben, a német hegedűpedagógus Erich Doflein ösztönzésére komponálta ezeket a darabokat, melyek – két kivétellel – eredeti népzenei témákon alapulnak, amelyeket a zeneszerző a Kárpát-medence, illetve Algéria látogatásai során gyűjtött össze.
