The present album features Megaron, a four-movement concerto for guitar and string orchestra by Nikita Koshkin, and Niccolò Paganini's Grand Sonata transcribed by Koshkin for the quartet. Paganini & Koshkin is Artyom Dervoeds second album on Firma Melodiya and captures a long-standing collaboration between the performer and Nikita Koshkin. Artyom Dervoed received international recognition, having become the first Russian to win two prestigious international contests: the Michele Pittaluga Competition in Italy and Her Royal Highness Princess Cristina Competition in Spain. He was awarded no less than in thirty-six competitions throughout his career. He is the first guitarist to collaborate with Mikhail Pletnev and the Russian National Orchestra, the first Russian artist who was invited by Tan Dun, an Oscar and Grammy Awards winning contemporary Chinese composer, to transcribe one of his work for the guitar. ""The Tsar of the guitar,"" ""an artist of the highest caliber,"" and ""One of the most outstanding classical guitarists [who] is taking the classical guitar to a new level"" are epithets given to Artyom Dervoed by Russian and foreign reviewers. The album features a Megaron Concerto live performance recording: the concerto was performed in Kazan in November 2017 with La Primavera Kazan chamber orchestra under the baton of Rustem Abyazov and recorded live. Niccolò Paganini's Grand Sonata was originally written for the guitar accompanied by the violin. Nikita Koshkin decided to choose the Paganini-style quartet for the transcription: guitar, violin, viola, and cello. Moscow Virtuosi chamber orchestra artists Alexey Lundin (violin), Kirill Semenovykh (viola), and Daniil Shavyrin (cello) participated in the recording.
