The volume presents the results of the excavations of the joint Mongolian- 1 Hungarian expeditions: among others the relics of the Late Bronze Age - Early Iron Age, the stag steles and the tombs of the Asian Hun (Hiung-nu) people from the 1st-2nd centuries A.D. Besides the scientific description of the finds, it also gives the details of their historical-archaeological background, on the basis of the data in the ear- lier literature, including foreign parallels. He also reflects on the theory of the Turcs in a distant connection with the Khazar and Avar archaeological relics. ISTVÁN ERDÉLYI (born 28th August 1931, Nagyvárad, Transylvania-Romania) is an archaeologist, museologist. Educated in Hungary, his university degree is in museology from the Loránd Eötvös University in 1955. Postgraduate student (1955-1959) at the Historical Faculty of the St. Petersburg (former Leningrad) State University. Dissertation on Hungarians in Levedia (1959), academic dissertation on The Avars and the Orient from the Perspective of the Archaeological Sources (1976). Since 1959 he is a fellow at the Archeological Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, was the Hungarian leader of the joint Soviet-Hungarian-Bulgarian archaeological expedition (1975-1982), and of the joint Hungarian-Mongolian Archaeological Expedition (1961-1990). A régész-muzeológus Erdélyi István a hatvanas-hetvenes években több mongóliai régészeti expedícióban is részt vett. Ez az angol nyelvű kötet a nemzetközi szakmai közönség előtt ad számot az ásatások eredményeiről, a bronzkortól a középkorig tárgyalva a belső ázsiai lovas nomád kultúrák és népek történelmét. A szerző elöljáróban rövid áttekintést ad a gyorsan keletkező és eltűnő lovas népek felépítésről és mozgásuk törvényszerűségéről, majd a különböző ásatási helyszíneket és leleteket bemutatását követik a történeti elemzések. A gazdag, dokumentatív értékű fekete-fehér és színes képanyaggal kísért kiadványban Tóth Tibornak, Pap Ildikónak és Marcsik Antóniának a feltárt sírok csontmaradványaival kapcsolatos írásai is helyet kaptak.
