Overview
This DVD presents iconic performances by the world-renowned Amadeus Quartet, one of the foremost string quartets of the 20th century. It features two of the greatest works in the string quartet repertoire: Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in C Major, Op. 76 No. 3 "Emperor", and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s String Quartet No. 19 in C Major, K. 465 "Dissonance". Both performances were recorded live by the BBC, with Haydn’s quartet captured at Freemason’s Hall in Newport in 1980 and Mozart’s "Dissonance" quartet recorded at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in 1983.
As a special bonus, the DVD includes a studio recording of Mozart’s String Quartet No. 16 in E-flat Major, K. 428, performed in 1962. These historic performances, now available on DVD for the first time, offer a rare opportunity to witness the Amadeus Quartet at the height of their powers.

- The quartet disbanded in 1987 following the death of violist Peter Schidlof, leaving behind a rich legacy of recorded performances.
