About the Author:
Kristina Roy was born in Stará Turá, then part of Hungary, in western Slovakia (German Altturn, Hungarian Ótura) as the daughter of a Protestant pastor. At the age of 28, she visited a preacher in Bohemia with her sister Marie and met deeply trusting people there. Belief in Jesus Christ was taken more than ever before in the Christian tradition that she had already experienced, rather in external forms. Henceforth, her mission was to use her literary talent to convey Christian beliefs to people in narrative form.
In total, Kristina Roy wrote 72 books and brochures. 43 of these were translated into 24 languages. The story Without God in the World, which was translated into 21 languages and even printed in Chinese in 1929 in Shanghai, had an unusually large success. There are few Christian narratives that have such far-reaching worldwide success. Roy's style is simple and easy to understand, the Christian content biblically sound.
Roy was not only a literary writer, she devoted all her power to the dawning revival movement. The misery of the alcoholics and their families was particularly important to her. Their initiative in 1897 in Stará Turá a Blue Cross Association was founded (this work was banned after the Second World War in the then communist environment). 1912 was created by Roy's use in Stará Turá a hospital and a deaconess house.
