About the Author

John Calvin (10 July 1509 – 27 May 1564) was a significant French theologian, pastor, and reformer during the Protestant Reformation. He played a crucial role in the development of Calvinism, which emphasizes doctrines such as predestination and the absolute sovereignty of God in the salvation of humanity. Calvin's theological contributions have influenced various Reformed, Congregational, and Presbyterian churches worldwide.

Calvin was a prolific writer known for his polemical and apologetic works. He corresponded with many reformers, including Philipp Melanchthon and Heinrich Bullinger. In addition to his Institutes of the Christian Religion, he authored commentaries on most books of the Bible and numerous theological treatises.

Initially trained as a humanist lawyer, Calvin broke away from the Roman Catholic Church around 1530. After fleeing to Basel due to religious tensions in France, he published the first edition of the Institutes in 1536. He later joined the Reformation in Geneva, where he faced both support and opposition as he implemented reforms in church governance and liturgy. His writings continue to be a valuable resource for understanding scripture and Reformed theology.

Hungarian Summary

A Református Egyházi Könyvtár újabb két kötete Kálvin páli levelekhez írt magyarázatainak sorát teszi teljessé: a Galata levéltől a Thesszalonikai levelekig.
