Classical music is sometimes confronted with the critique of only ever repeating the same Mozart and Beethoven concertos and symphonies over and over again - which begs the question: Why would we want another such concert, or another such recording? Simply because there is nothing ‘samey’ about this release: It is an all-new image concept, with the camera flying through the orchestra in a single shot, always moving along with where the music is, and getting closer to the musicians than ever before. It is an all-new audio concept, which slightly enhances whichever instrument the camera is focusing on at any given moment, so that the structure of the score really shines through the recording. And it is a very exceptional location, namely an old power station on the outskirts of Berlin that breathes the memory and imagery of Germany at the turn of the last century.
